What changed when Premodern went online
Until late 2025, Premodern was a paper-first community format: results came from in-person events such as Lobstercon and from scattered league reporting. Sample sizes were small, and matchup data was mostly anecdotal. The December 2025 Magic Online launch changed the supply of data, not the format itself — the legal pool is unchanged (4th Edition through Scourge, see the legal sets) and the banlist is the same one maintained on premodernmagic.com.
What online play adds is volume. Daily events and leagues generate thousands of recorded games, which is enough to compute win rates that mean something. That is the foundation under the rest of the Meta pillar: the tier list and the matchup matrix both lean on this online sample.
Where the win-rate data comes from
The win-rate figures on this site are mirrored from the Duress Crew Premodern Data Analysis Project, a community effort that aggregates Magic Online Premodern results. As of 2026-06-09 it covers 33,371 matches across the tracked archetypes. We do not generate our own results — we map their archetype names onto our deck slugs and surface the numbers where the mapping is unambiguous.
The most-played archetypes in that online sample are Sligh (3,734 matches) , Mono Blue Dreadnought (3,017 matches) , Goblins (2,786 matches) , Elves (2,326 matches) , Enchantress (1,863 matches) , Landstill (1,826 matches) , Terrageddon (1,807 matches) , and Replenish (1,715 matches) .
Read these figures the way the dataset intends: as an indicative online win rate, not a verdict. A high win rate on a small sample is noisy, and online metagames can diverge from a given paper room. Win rate (how often a deck wins) and metagame share (how often it shows up) measure different things; for the live share breakdown we defer to mtgtop8.
How to use it
If you are choosing what to play, start with the metagame analysis for the trend picture, then open the deck board to compare archetypes side by side and the matchups to see how your shortlist fares head to head. Every archetype has a full deck guide one click away.
